Have you noticed now that there are ‘days’ for everything? World Cupcake Day, World Sibling Day, World Kiss a Ginger Day (actually, I kinda like that one, being of the ginger persuasion…) but my two favourite days have to be World Gin Day and World Martini Day. And guess what? Today just happens to be World Martini Day, which is quite appropriate following on from my last post!
Last time, I told you all about my love of the Martini, and all of the many many different variations you can have. Well, just as you’re catching your breath from the many options, lo and behold, I have found you another! Enter… The Orange Martini!
This is a really simple cocktail that, unfortunately, requires a little patience. It is slightly sweeter and smoother than your standard Martini, but as orange is the base of this one, Kemsing makes for your perfect Martini gin here!
You will need:
60ml Kemsing Gin
25ml Dry Vermouth
10ml Sweet Vermouth
Good strip of orange peel
You need to combine your ingredients in a bottle, jar or jug (along with your orange peel) and pop it in the fridge for a couple of hours. Actually, I like to make this one in bulk. I’ve done a lot of Key Stage 2 Maths during Lockdown, so my mental arithmetic has improved (I’m an English teacher by trade, after all). I start by doubling everything and then just adding each ingredient at a time in single measures. Of course, common sense would tell you to know the volume of your mixing container to begin with but, pah, common sense!
Once you’ve let it steep, find yourself a Martini glass (ideally, or a straw) and pour!
And that’s it! Seriously delicious cocktail… Minimum amount of effort!
As always, take a photo of your creation and tag us on social media.
Happy World Martini Day!
